David Herrick is Chair Emeritus of the American Diabetes Association where he led the Board of Directors and guided the organization through a period of rapid change. He has a long track record of building powerful brands with purpose at their core.

As a senior executive in the marketing communications industry and as a counselor to C-suites, Boards and marketing executives, David’s strategies have powered and managed the reputations of many of the world’s leading companies.

David’s expertise includes market access, go-to-market strategy, brand positioning, sales and product marketing, corporate communications, and influencer relations. He has held senior leadership positions in some of the largest and most respected marketing firms in the world.

David received his M.B.A. and B.A. from the University of Washington.


Dave DeMarco, PhD, chief Innovation and Growth officer

Dave DeMarco is a growth strategy expert for healthcare and life sciences companies. He previously served as Deputy U.S. Healthcare Practice leader for EY and led the Life Sciences Practice in the Northeast U.S., working with many of the world’s leading biopharma companies. Dave is also Chair Emeritus of the American Diabetes Association where he served with distinction for nearly a decade.

With more than 25 years of leadership experience among the world’s most innovative companies, Dave advises on strategy and transformation, commercial operations, healthcare policy, governance, entrepreneurial growth, innovation and industry trends. 

Dave has held other key executive positions, including: Global Aesthetic Franchise Leader, Sanofi Aventis and Johnson & Johnson Global Client Services Partner, EY.

Dave received his B.S. from Grove City College and Ph.D. from Purdue University.


Kenneth Moritsugu, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P.M., Rear Admiral, USPHS (retired), Chief Health Strategy Officer

Rear Admiral Kenneth Moritsugu was the Acting Surgeon General of the United States, in 2002 and again from July 2006 until his retirement from the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service (USPHS). As Acting Surgeon General, he served as the nation’s top doctor, communicating the best available science and information to the American people to help protect, promote, and advance their health and safety.  

He was the operational commander of the 6,500 Commissioned Corps health professionals.  A career officer in the USPHS for 37 years, he served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States beginning in 1998. In these roles, he was responsible for the development and issuance of twenty major documents from the Office of the Surgeon General.

Subsequently, Dr. Moritsugu was Vice President of Global Strategic Affairs for LifeScan Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, and the Worldwide Chairman of the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute.  Most recently, he served as the Interim Chief Scientific and Medical Officer of the American Diabetes Association, from 2019-2020.

Dr. Moritsugu was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He received his Baccalaureate Degree with Honors in Classical Languages from the University of Hawaii, his MD from the George Washington University School of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health in Health Administration and Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Moritsugu is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, the Royal Society for Public Health, the Royal Society of Medicine, and the National Academy of Public Administration. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing, the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; was secretary/treasurer and board member of the Washington Regional Transplant Community; and is Emeritus Trustee of the Physician Assistant Foundation.  He is the Chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the George Washington University Milkin Institute School of Public Health, a member of the Board of Regents of Chaminade University of Honolulu, and a former member of the Board of Regents of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Services.

Dr. Moritsugu is a physician-administrator with extensive experience and a proven track record of successful leadership, policy development, program implementation, evaluation, and administration, in a variety of health care settings, including health professional development, health care delivery to large underserved populations, emergency response, health policy, correctional health, nation-wide health care delivery systems, managed care, the uniformed services of the United States, mental health, prevention, obesity and overweight, diabetes, bioterrorism, pandemic influenza, organ donation and transplantation, health literacy, underage drinking, and road safety.
